PM-SGMBY - PM Surya Ghar Yojana: Muft Bijli Yojana (Scheme)
On Tuesday, 13th Feb 2024, PM Narendra Modi announced a new scheme for the welfare of the country. Earlier, this scheme was announced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman during the Interim Budget 2024-25.
PM Surya Ghar Yojana, also named PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, is a scheme by the Central government. It is a scheme in which solar panels will be placed on rooftops for the production of electricity.
Key Highlights
- On Thursday, 29th Feb 2024, the Cabinet approves the PM - Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana (Scheme).
- Its aim is to install solar panels on rooftops in one crore households providing a total cost of Rs 75, 021 crore.
- Under this scheme, people will get subsidies directly into their bank accounts.
- It is estimated that one crore households will get 300 units of free electricity per month.
PM Narendra Modi has encouraged the people of the country for sustainable progress in solar energy by saying that he urges all residential consumers, especially youngsters to strengthen the PM - Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana.
He said that they have a target of uplifting one crore households to solar electricity. The government has plans to invest around RS 75,000 crores in this PM - Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana(scheme). With the help of it, consumers will be able to get 300 free units of electricity per month.

Subsidies will be provided for this scheme which will be directly transferred to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries.
Under this scheme, solar photovoltaic (PV) panels are used to fix them on top of a house, building, or residential property.
Manish Desai, the Principal Spokesperson of the Government of India & Principal Director General of the Press Information Bureau has also shared this information.

PM Surya Ghar Yojana Eligibility
This scheme is generally for residential households. People living in any state of the country can get its benefits. In it, solar panels will be placed on the roof of the house, helping to generate electricity.
Subsidy for PM Surya Ghar - Muft Bijli Yojana
As previously mentioned, the government will help people by providing them a subsidy for this scheme.
The subsidy for residential households provided by the official website is as follows
- Rs. 30,000/- per kW up to 2 kW
- Rs. 18,000/- per kW for additional capacity up to 3 kW
- Total Subsidy for systems larger than 3 kW capped at Rs 78,000
PM Surya Ghar Scheme Apply Online
To avail the benefits of this scheme, you have to go to the official website and fill in the required details.
Here is a step-by-step guide on how to apply to PM Surya Ghar Yojana online.
1) Go to the website - PM - Surya Ghar : Muft Bijli Yojana. After clicking the above link you will see the following page.
2) Then click on the option "Apply For RoofTop Solar" highlighted by a red arrow in the image.
3) After clicking this option, you will be taken to a new page as it appears below.
4) You will see two options available - Login and Registration. A registration option will be automatically selected.
5) Then you simply have to fill out the required details in the form.
6) For this, first select your state and district.
7) Then select your electricity distribution company/ utility.
8) Fill in your electricity consumer number.
9) After that, fill out your mobile number and email.
10) Once the registration is complete, log in with your details.
11) For it, log in with your consumer number and mobile number.
12) Then Apply for the rooftop solar as per the form.
13) Now you have to wait for your feasibility approval from DISCOM.
14) Once it's done, you can get your solar plant installed by any of the registered vendors in your DISCOM.
15) After installing the solar plant, submit the plant details and apply for a net meter.
16) After installation of the net meter and inspection by DISCOM, they will generate a commissioning certificate from the portal.
17) Once you get the commissioning report. Submit the bank account details and a canceled cheque through the portal.
18) After that you will receive your subsidy in your bank account within 30 days.
